Catherine St. Germain shamed her Navy veteran husband, who she’d known for two decades, with a Facebook video.
In the video, the 34-year-old, from Loveland, Colorado, holds up a series of cards to tell her heartbreaking story.
Her aim is to help other parents avoid going through the same awful experience.
The video, originally posted on April 8, has been viewed more than 48.7 million times in five days.
Catherine remains silent throughout and only uses short sentences to tell her story.
She reveals the harrowing moment she was told by police that her husband, Aaron Tyrell Scott, had abused her 15-year-old daughter, Alyssa, just one year after they had married.
Set to an instrumental cover of The Beatles’ ‘Yesterday’, Catherine holds up a card, that reads: ‘Two years ago I started dating a guy I had known for 20 years – Aaron Tyrell Scott.’
The video shows that Aaron was already a father-of-three from a previous relationship, and his daughter is only one year older than Alyssa.
She describes the former police officer as being ‘hard-working’, ‘very intelligent’, ‘charming and romantic’.
But only ten months later, she received the devastating call from police.
Catherine immediately kicked Aaron out of their home and filed for divorce.
However, he maintained his innocence ‘until DNA evidence came back positive’.
On January 2016, he was sentenced to 90 days in prison and eight years of sex offender probation.
Despite his conviction, Catherine was shocked to learn that the court would not notify the mother of his other three children.
She wrote that ‘predators’ go unnoticed and ‘stranger danger’ is a joke.
‘Monsters look and act normal. They are very good at hiding who they really are,’ she added.
Catherine urges all mothers to check the National Sex Offenders Registry so the same does not happen to them.
‘They are the people we trust with our kids every day,’ she says.
She said the ‘topic makes people feel awkward and uncomfortable’, but ‘secrecy and silence are how predators get away with their crimes’.
Catherine’s video has been re-posted by more than 72,400 people and has generated hundreds of comments of support.
Tiffany Armstrong wrote: ‘You’re an amazing woman! Your bravery and strength are incredible. I apologize deeply that you and your family had to face that unforgivable b******t.’
Other commenters have hit out at the courts for only sentencing Aaron to 90 days in prison.
He has since served his sentence and been released.
