How to Get More Pleasure Out of Common Sex Positions

Boosting your
pleasure big time may be as easy as making a few small tweaks to some common sex positions. “The secret to having more intense, enjoyable sex is to know how to angle yourself so that you’re hitting your most sensitive areas while allowing yourself to really let go and relax,” says Patricia Taylor, Ph.D., sex educator and author of the newly revised Expanded Orgasm. More pleasure may mean hitting the big O, but it also means feeling more turned on and connected to your body. No need to go through the entire Kama Sutra trying to find the best techniques to get you hot: Simply play around with these twists on classic positions to up the intensity.

Woman on Top

Many women like this position because you’re in control of the speed of the thrusting and the angle. To make it even more intense, instead of simply sitting on top of him, get on your knees while bending forward so you’re leaning toward his face, then move in and out of him nice and slow. “This will help his penis hit your G spot while allowing you to angle your clit on his shaft as you use your arms to hold onto him for balance,” Taylor says. Starting off slow and increasing the speed is key because you want to make sure you’re really warmed up: When you’re engorged your clitoris—which starts out as a small pinpoint located just above the opening to your vagina—grows and drops lower, and the larger area of sensation increases your ability to orgasm. Plus this slightly shifted position allows you to move however you’d like. “If you’re in the mood for experimenting, have your guy wear a vibrating cock ring since you have a lot of control in this position to really increase your sensation,” Taylor says.

When a guy enters you from behind, his penis is at an ideal angle to hit your G spot, so he feels even bigger. “The beauty of this move is that it also leaves your clit really exposed so it’s easy for your guy to reach around and stimulate you manually, or for you to touch yourself,” Taylor says. “This is important because only about 33 percent of women have orgasms during intercourse, but it increases to 50 percent when a woman’s clitoris is stimulated.” The flipside is that if you’re getting rug burn or your knees are hurting, you’ll be too distracted by discomfort to really let go and enjoy. To make the move more comfortable, try putting some pillows underneath your stomach and chest for support, and keeping your legs out straight instead of bent as he enters you from behind, Taylor suggests. “This lets you fully relax so you can just take your time and savor the experience while still leaving you room to reach down and touch your clit."

Tweak this oral position by having both of you lie on your sides while scissoring your legs to give each other easier access to the goods. “This makes for a better angle for you to suck on his penis as he either licks your vagina or stimulates you with his fingers,” Taylor says. To make things earth-shattering, try having your guy play around by touching your clit with a vibrator as you suck him off. The newest breed goes hi-tech by letting you adjust the intensity based on how hard you squeeze. Try the Limon, which even has a record mode so you save your favorite customized pleasure pulse that will get you off every time.

Spooning

There are few things cozier than the spoon, so getting it on like this can boost your pleasure because you’re already in a bonding position—and feeling connected helps you climax. “You can be really orgasmic in spoon because when you’re both lying next to each other with him against your back, the angle of his penis will hit your G spot,” Taylor says. “Just be sure to have him go really slow so he doesn’t slip out.” To make it sizzle, Taylor suggests wearing a blindfold or using a tie of his to cover your eyes. “Turning off the visual cues temporarily encourages the sense of surrender into the experience to help you focus you on deep feelings with no visual distractions,” Taylor says. “When this occurs, moans and groans register as more intense and intimate and add to the novelty. All this relaxation coupled with sensation can be a very hot and sexy experience.” Another way to up the thrills: Since his hands are free in this position and can loosely drape over you, grab them and show him how you want him to play with your nipples to stimulate even more of your pleasure zones.
Seated Straddle

“Focus on your breath: As you breathe out, he breathes in,” Taylor says. “When you’re having sex, you’re usually tensing and tightening up, but flowing your energy through your breath helps your body to expand and open.” There are two reasons this twist of coordinating your breathing works so well in straddle position: When you’re sitting face to face, you can look into each other’s eyes to feel even more connected, which boosts intimacy. Plus your chests are freer to expand without having the pressure on your bodies that naturally happens if one of you were lying down. Bonus: Inhaling deeply during intercourse increases oxygen and blood flow throughout the body, so you hit your highest notes.
